All of our books but Caesars have this at 8.5 so we get some value here. Certainly could push by Dylan Cease has been very good for San Diego and is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA on the road. Slade Cecconi is only in the Arizona lineup due to Merrill Kelly's injury, but Cecconi has a 2.25 ERA in two starts and tremendous control dating to his minor-league days. The Under is 6-1 in Arizona's past seven. We might push but don't think we lose.
Many books have dropped this to eight. Seattle's George Kirby was my preseason AL value pick for the Cy Young. I felt stupid for that initially as Kirby was lousy but he hasn't allowed a run in back-to-back starts with just seven hits allowed and 19Ks over 12 innings. Dude is nasty. Houston's Ronel Blanco has been one of the early surprises on MLB at 3-0 with a 1.65 ERA. He's coming back to earth some in allowing 2 ER in three straight but I'll take that tonight.
So when I write the daily newsletter for subscribers (sign up!), I include the trends at books in terms of whom is betting what. Get all those in a feed. Is RSS still a thing? Bobby Witt Under 1.5 hits is the No. 1 most-wagered hits market prop at DK. I don't often tail but I do like to see what people are doing in case I missed something. Witt a very good player who has multiple hits in back-to-back games but not George Brett. And he's 0-for-5 off Texas starter Michael Lorenzen. This is just math. If Witt doesn't get a hit in the first inning ... well it's Breaking 2: Electric Boogaloo time.
The Yankees aren't hitting much and Aaron Boone reportedly may flip-flop struggling Aaron Judge with Juan Soto in the lineup as soon as Friday. Not ideal that New York played Thursday and Detroit didn't, but the Yanks didn't use any key bullpen guys in a loss in Baltimore. And they should have the starting pitching edge here in Marcus Stroman over Reese Olson, who is 0-2 with an ERA near 5.00 on the road. Soto is 2-for-2 career off him with two homers, so I may throw a sprinkle down tomorrow on a Soto HR prop (if weather cooperates) even though I don't usually play those.
This is really when we are so limited in NHL betting options. Vancouver +1.5 is a ridiculous -250. Would like to bump up the total a bit as well. But we'll roll with the more accomplished goalie (Juuse Saros) at home in a must-win game. Just can't believe he would lose a third straight at home, and Saros played great in the first two except for late in the third and early in OT of Game 4. In reality, the Preds should be up 3-2 and not down. In the past three games, Nashville has outnumbered Vancouver in both shots on goal and shot attempts. That's a positive sign.
Not sure I would have played Cavs moneyline in Game 5 had I known Jarrett Allen was out as he has been Cleveland's best player in the series. That rib injury came out of nowhere and considering Allen didn't practice Thursday, he's probably out Friday. The Cavs can afford to rest him one more game with a potential Game 7 at home in their back pocket. Orlando won both at home in this series by 20 points each and that was with Allen playing very well in both.
The Phils were off on Thursday so the bullpen is locked and loaded (that a good thing for them?) and no key regulars should sit Friday to open a homestand. Might not be the case for the Giants, who also used all their key relievers on Thursday in Boston. Converted SF reliever Jordan Hicks has been excellent but this is by far his toughest road test so far in 2024. Philly's Aaron Nola is 4-0 with a a 2.06 ERA in his past five.
Again, I do different. Not sure the Reds should get +1.5 so we throw a tad down simply because. Flipped at many books. Hunter Greene is like James Spader in every 80s movie. You kinda hate him but like him.
Small play as I love these Cubs Friday matinees. They often have a major advantage with the quick turnaround but don't here as the Cubs played yesterday and Milwaukee didn't. Still, 10-3 at home. If the Brewers were starting anyone but Joe Ross on the mound, probably not. Craig Counsell's first game against his former club.
